Okay, I guess. I say Layton is winning.
NDP propose a new socialist program! Anyone else as shocked as me.
Oh here we go on the arts funding... *puke*
Layton is winning, I'd say.
oh, God, "I'm an artist.. I have friends who are artists. Give us money!!"
My parents are small business owners. How much money are they going to get? Oh, my neighbour is a plumber. How much for that? (Or do you not care about plumbers?)
Layton does sound the most self-assured..
Saskatchewan arts question: I'm a spoiled middle class artist who wants someone to subsidize my lifestle. If elected, would you force taxpayers who hate my art to give me money?
It's easy to sound self-assured when you're articulating your true beliefs. Harper, on the other hand...
Paint a picture, make a movie, sing a song. Sell it. Keep your hands out of my pocket.
Chris, what do you think about the "creative class" business? The argument is basically that gay people are good for the economy.
I'll cite quotes from the book for you later Terrence
ummm...none of my gay friends are artists actually lol
"The country is stimulated by his and her art." Dion... Funniest translation problem in the debate.
Harper should say: "The Conservatives think artists should get a real job."
the gays that work are good for the economy, the gays that don't aren't..just like everyone else haha
May: "Creative class"? So where does this "class" fit in the social hierarchy? Above working class slobs, I presume.
Jack - "the average person in the arts only makes $10,000 a year" - maybe they should be getting a second job...
The Soviets had the peasants, the workers, and the intelligentsia
$10,000/year? They should try being grad students :)
Working artists need a decent standard of living. So that they can make pictures like this:
Great question from Paikin "Do you think that Conservatives are barbarians, yes or no?"
If governments are getting such a great return from these arts investments, I'm sure the private sector would be happy to invest.
that was a GREAT question
"Are conservatives barbarians?"
Kalim, I thought you were kidding
Abolish the Heritage Ministry!
Bill C-10 was a mistake. It exposes Harper to legitimate criticism on the issue of culture.
Why is Harper defending higher spending in the arts?
What I wouldn't give for a leader in this country that defends the free market. A leader that doesn't play the "I gave *more* money to this project and that project."
Matthew, I don't know. Maybe Harper should pull out the "Why should Canadians subsidize art they don't agree with?" line
May: "climate control trucks." You're killing me!
May has such a great vocabulary - "those stupid cuts"
Culture Shift -- the Conservatives moved the money from arts to sports. They should have killed the programs and returned the money to taxpayers with full apology.
wow - Jack is the only politician to say the word "freedom" so far tonight...
May: Conservatives aren't barbarians, but they are "mean spirited"
"They talk about freedom as if it is one of those values"
the moderator is truly fantastic
Jack is an idiot. He says Harper wants to take away the freedom of expression of Canadians. So is Layton opposed to Section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act?
