Hi, my name is Brent from B.C. ive been a Roofer for 15 yrs. I started roofing when i was 15 Doing hot work and such then advanced on to bigger and better roofing doing such systems as (SBS torch on, TPO rubber, PVC rubber, EPDM Rubber, Tar & Gravel BUR, Shingles and Metal roofing. The reason im writing you today is I just started to watched your show and noticed a a few things wrong with what the Roofer was saying. Not sure what episode it was but they were doing a re-roof on a shigle job and they were talking bout the over topper. Well in my experience most of the time the home owner when given that option they usually take it cause its cheap and most home owners arnt willing to pay what it takes to do it right anyways thats not why I started this post. When they were ripping of the SBS Torch on BASE PLY not(mid ply)also they 3 tab shingles that the home owner wanted are only a 10-15yr shingle. Ice and water should not be on the whole house either the roofer needs to breath to (help)prevent the shingles from bakeing in the heat of the summer. Ice and water is required in the eve and valleys Paper for the rest. I also observed a Torch on SBS roof being done with the wrong equipment. Not a good idea to strip in walls and scupper drains with a field torch, they have stripping torchs for that reason (much shorter)being is you can no control when you have that long wand stripping it in

Sorry I hit the enter key there. I also observed no degranulation when they when applying end laps together 6" is required for the end lap. Not degranulating (also known as inbeding)the endlap results in water Capilery action through the lap. What degranulating/inbeding does is it pushes the granuals past the bitumen in the sheet so your sealed to the bitumen rather then the granuals.Sorry i just didnt like teh explanations that the Roofer was giving i Honestly think that you could find better people. Tree root penetration at the front of the house? What can a root do? Maybe cause more moisture.

Yeah they actually did. There was work to be done on the house.. as per the inspector's report. But it was a good deal regardless.

I'm glad to hear that. I'd be afraid that if Mike's team did an inspection, you wouldn't want to buy the house. Glad they found a good one.
