you can ask Skye Questions with the #story09 hashtag
as a communicator/pastor you have a choice you can inform or inspire/teach or preach #story09
When people come to church, they come with the expectation curiosity that there is another world out there... an expectation of transcendence which is most time hidden by a vail of consumerism #story09
2 fatal flaws of church
1. worst way to teach is by gathering together multitudes of people and speaking for 20-45 minutes... preaching as instruction doesn't work.
teaching happens best in small relational groups where each other's stories are shared
teaching in lecture format doesn't challenge peoples perception of reality... people who have been marinating in a consumeristic culture for most of the week
consumerism teaches us that every problem has a solution that can be bought.
We've made Jesus a means to an end, happiness, joy, peace, comfortable lifestyle...
means with no vision. We have the means to learn, but lack the vision to understand.
Skye - "ok, that is the bad news... there is an alternative"
when the kingdom of God is preached the floodlights come on and the vision of another accessible world is seen, felt, and breathed out. #story09
this happens not through instruction but through inspiration.
anyone can preach... those who have experienced the reality of God's love and grace.
(said better) preaching is done best when those who have experienced the reality of God's love and grace tell their story (proclaim their story).
Skye is ending with a charge: "Preach in season and out of season, don't just teach - preach, don't just teach - inspire!"
cool stuff - i'm going to push everyone to
