(Groeschel up in this piece.)
(Craig likes his shirts neatly pressed.)
(Who's more dreamy, Chip or Dan Heath?)
Think about something that you really believe needs to change...
(Everyone's raising their hands in here.)
(Dan is more dreamy, clearly.)
Why are some changes harder than others? Why are some more excruciating than others?
"People lose their jobs over trying to move something around on the stage." Groeschel.
"Part of us sees the need for change. Part of us resists change and embraces the status quo."
"If the elephant doesn't want to move, the elephant is not going to move."
"The rider and the elephant must be aligned in order to get to the same place."
"If you work hard, you can be as smart as a third grader by the end of the year." This spoken to first graders.
By the end of that year, those first graders–90% anyway–were reading at a 3rd grade level.
"Ignore the bottom two, ignore the middle five. Go straight for the top performers and figure out what's working."
"Flip your mindset and find the bright spot. Find out what's working and illuminate it."
"Find the solutions by looking for the bright spots in an organization."
"Look at the one bright spot in your ministry where God is really working and go with those..."
*that, rather.
Focusing on the bright spots upholds what's already working.
Groeschel: "I read your book in one setting." Doesn't he mean "sitting"?
"Big problems are almost always solved by a sequence of small solutions."
(Sorry for the lack of updates ... I'm trying to get some digestible nuggets for everyone.)
"The economic downturn is forcing (the Church) to change the way we do things."
"Suppose that you started a Bible study group one day a week? Locate it downtown and make it on Tuesday nights ... If you feel yourself getting more optimistic, you're feeling the change that you're looking for!"
How do we get the elephant and the rider moving in the same direction? "We prepare people for adversity."
"If there was anyone on earth who had no business rocking the boat, it was Tiger Woods ... But he had the 'growth mindset.'"
"We must build in our process a tolerance for failure."
"We often equate failing with missing God when failing should be equated with success."
"Failure is an early warning sign for success."
"A lot more people would tithe if we allowed for electronic deposit from their bank account." (AMEN!)
"If you are married and have kids you have gone through way more stressful changes than you will ever go through in a job situation."
(Craig's clapping is very loud.)
(And we're out. Getting a Switch plug... Make sure you pick it up at your site :))
