OK Witchking and Godfree - you guys here?
yes I am...
Yeah i am
Witchking sucks
lol
Im here
Hey guys, thanks for doing this interview.
ok great!
No problem.
let's get started
no problem. Pretty cool feature.
With E3 just days away, we’re going to get the lowdown on what vibes the Community is feeling as we sit and chat with Sarkis Daglian (Witchking9), from ve3tro.com, Danny Pena (Godfree) from gamertagradio.com, and Parris Lilly (vicious696) from talkingaboutgames.com.
First off, thank you guys for taking the time to talk about the serious business of E3.
So...How big will E3 2009 be compared to the E3 we've seen in the past few years?
Anyone can chime in ;)
I think E3 2009 may be a total return to the E3's of past. The attendance size is already back to the mid 10s of thousands, like 40K. We know celebs are going to be in the house and booth babes are returning. I personally am already worried it's going to be a zoo.
This is the year that I know so many community sites are going to attend E3 this year. I am happy to see this and at the sametime hope everyone have fun with it. It feels like 2006 again when it was open for more people then having it all private for 2 years. It was good for the media to play the games but it wasn't exciting. it felt ehh. E3 2009 is looking pretty good so far.
I know my writing sucks... but hey go for it! lol
No worries!
40K? Incredible!
E3 2009 will be big this year, Microsoft is sitting on something big, Sony has put there cards on the table and have a strong lineup this holiday and Nintendo is Nintendo expect something big from them as well
Vicious, do you agree? If so, why do you think E3 is going back to being a mega show?
So far alot of companies are giving us a chance this time. I remember in 2005 that was my first E3 event. Companies didnt even care about podcasting back then. But things are changing and we are the new media.
Because of the size, are you guys worried that it may be harder to cover E3? As far as seeing stuff on the show floor?
Yes E3 2009 will require a team of 4 to 6 people to properly cover it this year
and you will still miss something
it happens every year
That's a great point Godfree, with social media making headway, seems like smaller outlets will have some fantastic coverage.
Hmm well tell you the truth this is always hard to cover with a small amount of people compare to IGN having a huge staff. But it all depends on the person covering the event. I've been there by myself and have gotten alot of goodies from the show.
In a way I am. But back in the day, I was able to crawl the floor in less than a day. More staff is definitely going to be an advantage this year. But I think if there is something we've learned, the real E3 happens behind closed doors and by invite only.
OK next question: What would make E3 a success in your opinion?
If you really want it then go for it. If you just care about playing new games and thats it then I dont see your coverage going anywhere. For those sites going there for the first time. Save your interviews and release them in the future instead of throwing away and people not giving it attention due to many sites doing the samething.
E3 is all about the presentation, whoever can put on the best "show" usually wins
Maybe more specifically, what would make E3 a success for Microsoft?
Anything that would get the buzz going in the industry and generate excitement. It's about being exciting and being a show. Announce something amazing out of left field and put it out there.
Witchking - such as?
for MS to be a success they need to deliver on the promise of changing the way we think of home entertainment
Microsoft needs to show exclusives for the holiday. It's their biggest weak point. All this wand stuff is nice and dandy, but show me something truly revolutionary.
I don't know, Microsoft isn't exactly tops when it comes to keeping their E3 plans and press briefing points a secret.
In my opinion? have surprises, create a buzz and also let us play the game at the show. Last year I left all hype from MS press conference in 2008. Because of the Final Fantasy coming to the console. We need more of that from many gaming companies
We already know ODST will be there, Zune HD is going to be a topic, a Wii like function add on is likely to be shown. What surprises are left? That's what I want to see happen.
I'm going to mention a few items - and if you guys could fire off quick thoughts...
Ready?
3D camera
Witchking secrets is the best thing. When companies release all the news then the excitement won't be there for me.
