good afternoon and welcome to the FoxFest liveblog! we'll be keeping you abreast of all the shenanigans at the Fox & Firkin in Lewisham over the next two days as we're treated to non-stop musics
by cogitata at 5/23/2009 11:03:32 AM
due to technical difficulties (ie 3mobile broadband is rubbish) updates are on hold for now, apologies
by cogitata at 5/23/2009 1:35:43 PM
but I can tell you we've been treated to the acoustic stylings of Heath, and are ears are currently being assaulted by the powerful sound of Let Our Enemies Beware
by cogitata at 5/23/2009 1:36:24 PM
during soundcheck there was a bt of a riff off between the LOEB and Grim Hilde, the former being powerful metal and the latter acoustic, highly edifying
by cogitata at 5/23/2009 1:37:15 PM
next up, Wonk Unit
by cogitata at 5/23/2009 1:38:14 PM
currently on the phone to O2 customer services - not what I thought I'd be doing at this time
by cogitata at 5/23/2009 1:41:38 PM
there's a good crowd in the pub and the garden, the cider is flowing, I'm stuck upstairs :(
by cogitata at 5/23/2009 1:43:42 PM
O2 cannot help me, aargh! anyone have a mobile broadband I can borrow? :p right, next...
by cogitata at 5/23/2009 1:46:50 PM
the saga continues... but in the meantime we have heard from Grim Hilde, who finished off a lovely loud set with a rendition of Metallica's 'Seek and Destroy'. currently on the acoustic stage is the Fox's very own Shaun Grimsley

Right, now we're getting somewhere, perhaps I can enjoy some music! Shaun's just finishing up, and next we'll be treated to 'Monkish'. I once went to a mini festival in the grounds of a monastery in Aylesford; a monk played a mate's drums, and was very good. Why be a monk when you can drum? Keith Moon showed us what happens to a drummer with a habit...
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 2:48:15 PM
Monkish on stage; 2 guitarists, a bassist, drummer, 2 vocalists and a cool pair of red shades. What's the music like? Think Black Sabbath, then add some Beastie Boys and a bit of Pistols
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 2:56:05 PM
I think this song might be a bit rude, he keeps making fisting motions
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 2:56:46 PM
a bit of a jazz intro there... Then shouty shouty... The audience appears to have thinned somewhat

In the garden you can purchase fabulous pretty things from a couple of fabulous pretty ladies, eg handmade hairclips, brooches, hats, at very reasonable prices
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 3:14:30 PM
And there's live knitting!
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 3:15:11 PM
two men, a guitar, a synth on a plastic box and a rather low chair; that's Glass, up next
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 3:20:58 PM
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 3:21:02 PM
Ooh, plinky
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 3:21:43 PM
I think people may have gone foraging for food; Lewisham will be vending more fried chicken than usual today...

This one could be put to an 80s montage, in a good way. I have a problem with that song in Team America that says 'even Rocky had a montage'; it's the definitive montage, so it shouldn't be 'even Rocky'. If Gordon Brown had a montage it would work; 'you gotta have a montage, even Gordon Brown had a montage', see? Although it doesn't scan right...
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 3:30:56 PM
This is interesting stuff, shame the crowd isn't bigger; get down here!
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 3:38:04 PM
Coming soon... 23 Frames
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 3:42:49 PM
And that's Glass (a little over time). Now 23 Frames; apparently a more guitary version of Yokoko (playing tomorrow)
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 3:51:39 PM
Mr Jonny Yeah does a quick round up of the acts so far, and takes a break from announcing; we all know how he hates the sound of his own voice...
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 3:53:01 PM
What do drummers have against clothing their top half?
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 3:54:03 PM
Not sure I agree with that earlier characterisation (Yokoko-like), not as poppy at all; sounding a bit like Three Colours Red, perhaps. Big crowd, we likes it!
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 3:59:51 PM
Nah, much better than TCR. Quite atmospheric heavy melodic rock pop. Or am I just stringing words together?
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 4:08:00 PM
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 4:08:03 PM
That intro made me think of No Doubt; it's the harmonies and guitar. Gone a bit Placebo now, but without the rubbishness
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 4:12:48 PM
Kooba Radio will be setting the audience some live homework later, and the Kooba TV guys are about the place. www.koobaradio.co.uk
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 4:19:16 PM
Still with 23 Frames; current tune is 'Basilisks' and it rocks, a real dancy number. Making me think of Dogs Die in Hot Cars, but heavier. I'm also after the singer's Lost Boys t-shirt.
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 4:24:45 PM
Definitely your blogger's favourite so far, fabulous! The lovely Miss Jo Williams next...
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 4:27:10 PM
The pub is set up with a stage at either end so the music can be non-stop. The crowd moves en masse every half an hour or so, the whole thing resembling a slow and sedate game of british bulldog
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 4:30:15 PM
I think 630 is a good time to start drinking; texts from about 9 will be either more or less amusing
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 4:31:18 PM
Miss Jo Williams fighting against the chat and growing inebriation of FoxFesters. If you like Polly Paulusma, Idha, Gwendolyn or Regina Spektor, you'll be a fan

Hindley are entertaining us with some very much of the moment indie stylings; think Bloc Party etc
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 5:03:35 PM
Just seen Alex and Myles of Kooba Radio, off to record something in the shed at the bottom of the garden
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 5:04:37 PM
by dan via email at 5/23/2009 5:04:40 PM
Hindley seem popular with some of the Festers; must admit I can't get on with this sonic pop type stuff myself
